Plush toy testing and quality control

In most of the markets we ship to a soft toy is legally a children's product, which makes the paperwork matter as much as the stitching. Here is what we do as standard and what we arrange on request.

EN71-1, EN71-2, EN71-3

European toy safety: mechanical and physical properties, flammability, and migration of heavy metals out of the fabric, thread and fill.

ASTM F963

The US consumer safety standard: small parts, seam strength, and the pull force required to detach eyes, noses and other fittings.

CPSIA and tracking labels

Lead and phthalate limits for the US market, plus the permanent tracking label carrying batch and production date.

REACH and Prop 65

Restricted substances screening for the EU and California, booked through SGS, BV, Intertek or whichever lab you nominate.

Checked at every stage

  • Incoming fabric matched to the approved swatch for colour, shade and pile direction
  • Embroidery checked against the digitised file before the panel is sewn in
  • Needle detection on every finished unit before it goes anywhere near a carton
  • Eye and nose pull test at 90 N on units drawn from each production batch
  • Seam strength tested on limbs, tails and the neck join
  • Fill weight verified against the approved sample, unit by unit on short runs
  • AQL 2.5 major / 4.0 minor inspection before the cartons are sealed
  • Pre-shipment photographs sent for your written approval
